Error “Object reference not set to an instance of an object” or “GetFieldNames” Map Magic V 1.0.0.16938

Issue

Clients with Map Magic CMO version 1.0.0.16938 or earlier may receive the error “Object reference not set to an instance of an object” when clicking send selection tool or Exception “GetFieldNames” when opening the settings window

Explanation

Clients with Map Magic CMO version 1.0.0.16938 or earlier may receive the error “Object reference not set to an instance of an object” when using the send selection tool button. They may also receive an unhandled exception of “GetFieldName” when opening the settings window. This occurs when layers of selectable images are added as a layer to the GIS map.

This error occurs when a selectable image layer is added to the GIS map. Map Magic asks each selectable layer for the fields that make up the layer. Image layers do not contain fields, and are not able to provide this information. This causes the layer to send an error to Map Magic.

Solution

Image layers that are selectable should be removed from the GIS map while using Crash Magic. These layers can be added back once Map Magic has been used.
