Why does my filter have © and ® symbols in it?
Article created: Dec 27 2001, updated: Dec 27 2001
Background:
The © and ® symbols are placeholders for a carriage return. While these symbols are generally hidden from view, they are visible in files, and in some edit controls.

Categories:

Explanation:
Beginning with about version 6.625, Intersection Magic filters, import definitions, etc. support multiple lines. Since these multiple lines can not be saved in the files that store filters, the © and ® symbols are used when writing them to a file.
In most cases, the symbols will not be visible, but there are a few places where they can still be seen in the program. This is normal.
Solution:
As long as you are running a version that supports carriage returns in filters, there is nothing to do. Things are working fine. If your version doesn't support multiple line filters, and you have a multiline filter, you must removed those © and ® symbols from the filter. It will then work just fine.
