Solution:
Users should be informed that the system will be down momentarily for the upgrade process. Crash Magic is accessed as a web service, and users may be disappointed if they can not access the website.
The first goal is to stop the Crash Magic application pool. This will shutdown the Crash Magic web service.
- Open the IIS manager on the computer that is running Crash Magic
- Expand the Application Pools
- Click on the application pool that is running Crash Magic to select it(The recommended name for this pool is CrashMagicAP, but the installer does have the option to change the name)
- With the Crash Magic application pool selected click the stop button to stop the web service.
- Close the IIS manager.
Now the new msi can be run to upgrade Crash Magic. Ensure that the msi for the new version is on the machine that is being upgraded.
- Double click on the MSI to start the install process.
- Click the Next button on the Welcome screen when it highlights.
- Select the location that Crash Magic is installed to( The default location is C:\Program Files\PdMagic\CrashMagicOline\).
- Click the Install button to install the new version.
- The Installer will open the Crash Magic configuration editor when completed.
- Select your configuration and enter the new registration key in the Registration tab.
- Select File/Save to save the new registration information.
The Crash Magic software has now been upgraded. If the version of Crash Magic being upgrading to requires changes to the system tables, the changes should be made at this point in the process. Contact Pd Programming if you are unsure.
The last portion of this process is to start the Crash Magic web service.
- Open the IIS manager on the computer that is running Crash Magic
- Expand the Application Pools
- Click on the application pool that is running Crash Magic to select it.
- With the Crash Magic application pool selected click the start button to start the web service.
- Close the IIS manager.
You will now want to confirm that you can open the Crash Magic web site and login.
