Why does the count for a sliding spot section not match the actual number of crashes for that section?

Article created: Oct 07 2003, updated: Oct 07 2003

Background:  Intersection Magic has a margin of error when calculating sliding spot sections.

Status:  Bug - under investigation
Keywords:  sliding spot,section,crash count,mile markers
Categories:   *Reports* *Diagrams* *Data*

Explanation:
When a sliding spot report is made, the count of crashes for individual sections does not portray the true count in some cases. There is a +/- .05 (or approx. 250ft) distance grabbed when determining sliding spot list. This accounts for the possibility of more accidents being counted than actually exist for that segment. When the diagram is actually drawn, we use exact mile markers, therefore depicting the correct # of accidents.

Solution:
At this time there is no fix for this bug.
