In addition to volume data for an intersection, you can specify a single numeric value and a single text value for each intersection. The format for this added information is as follows:
Street 1 & Street 2,Volume,number,text Street 1 & Street 3,Volume,number,text Another Street & Yet Another Street,Volume,number,text
The rules, in addition to the basic vol file rules, are as follows:
The format has been setup in this manner to allow expansion in the future. Other values which may be incorporated are turning rates, approach volumes from different directions, etc.
Once the volume data file has been created, it must be saved. Give it a descriptive name, perhaps 1993.vol. Use Configuration Defaults / File Names / Other to set the current volume data file. Each diagram or configuration may use a different volume data file. At the present time there is no support for multiple volumes to be used in one diagram. (i.e. A diagram containing 1993 and 1994 data will have to use just one volume data file)
Hint: Intersection Magic can create this file for you automatically. Select Reports / Listings / High accident locations. Choose a date range which includes the entire database. Then choose a very high number of intersections (10000 perhaps) and a low requirement for inclusion (1 for example). Check the "as data" option and the "for vol file" option. The resulting file will contain a list of all intersections in the database along with their current volume settings and user defined numeric and text values. Make any desired changes and save the file with a .vol extension.
Once this file has been completed, you will need to set its name under the Utilities / Configuration defaults / File names menu options. Click on the More button, and set the Volumes data file under the appropriate button. This will activate your Volumes data file. |
