The sliding spot listing command provides the user with a means of locating high accident locations on roads with hundred block or milepost data. For each road specified, this report examines the entire length and sorts the high accident locations into the list of all roads specified for processing. The program uses a spot size to determine the roadway study length. For example, to find the one mile segment with the most accidents, the user would set spot size to 1.0. To find the five mile section with the highest accident count, the spot size would be set to 5.
Let's go ahead and run a Sliding Spot Report by selecting that option from the Reports / Listing menus. This box will appear.
Sliding Spot Box
We want to do this report by Hundred Block Locations, so make sure that option is selected at the top. We also want to give it a date range for all of 1990. And then we want to select the STREETS.TXT file we created earlier with the listing of the streets in the database. Sort the output by #3, which is Count then Street. For now leave the Slide distance and Spot size at 1.00. Say OK to the box. It will ask you if you want to Y=Slide, or N=Frequency List. We want to Select No to produce a Frequency Listing. At this point you will get a progress box. When it's finished you will have this report, with Broadway at 700 to 701 at the top, which has the most Hundred Block accidents for this date range.
