Intersection Corridor

An intersection corridor is a primary street and a range of cross streets.  Since this requires that the program be aware of the order of the streets along the primary street, we've entered that information into the demo database for Broadway.

Note: to view or modify the street order list, use Utilities / Database / Manage cross streets.  Cross-streets may be added, removed, dragged to a new order and a button is available to add all cross streets that have accidents in the current DB.  For now, we'll just use the pre-defined Broadway cross street list.

Select Intersection Corridor at the top of the New Diagram dialog.  Choose Broadway as the primary street.  Now click on the … button to the right of the corridor to, from selection box.  From here you can select a starting and ending cross-street to use when gathering data.  There are also several other settings that allow you fine tune which accidents are included in the diagram.  Choose Park Ave to Evergreen.  For the first two numbers "no more than nn feet", enter 0's.  For the last one enter the number 1.  Select ok.  Then select ok to create a new diagram.

For this special kind of corridor (mid-block between just two intersections) we will choose a mid block schematic.  Select Diagram / Schematic / Load.  Navigate to mid-blck\n_s\normal.ara.  This schematic has a number of areas representing different distances from the intersection.  (You can click on the Areas check box to see these areas)  Select ok. The three accidents that appear are 16, 5, and 10 feet from their respective intersections.  To better illustrate this, let's move them to somewhat exaggerated distances from the cross streets.  Choose Diagram / Configuration / Settings.  Locate the Distance Groups setting and notice that it is probably set to 50.  This setting is used in diagrams where there are multiple areas representing distances from the intersection.  (Not just mid-blocks)  Change this setting to 3;7;12;16;.  When you select ok, the accidents will be relocated to reflect their distances from the intersections.

Work is currently underway which will provide schematics that represent multiple cross streets graphically.  Until this feature is complete, the intersection corridor diagram type can still be used to gather the accidents and perform analysis.  This includes lists, charts, and filters.  For more on what's coming, keep an eye on your mailbox.
