The following formula is used to calculate rates at intersections:

AccidentRate = Intersection accident rate expressed in accidents per million entering vehicles.
AccCount = Number of accidents in the intersection
Volume = Average daily volume into intersection
Days = Number of days in the study (diagram)
The volume data file is simply a list of intersection names and their related volumes. The format is as follows:
Street 1 & Street 2,Volume
Street 1 & Street 3,Volume
Another Street & Yet Another Street,Volume
The rules are as follows:
| • | The street names must be spelled exactly as they are in the database. |
| • | The Intersection name must be street 1; followed by one space; followed by &; followed by street 2. |
| • | The volume should have no spaces or commas within the number. |
| • | There is a comma after the street intersection name and before the volume number. |
| • | The number of other spaces on the line is not important. |
