Creating an ODBC share

If you are running Windows 3.11 or NT or 2000, you are ready to proceed. If you are running Windows 95 or 98, you will need to install the 16-bit ODBC drivers for MS Access. Please see our web site for information about doing this. Note: All that you need is included on the Intersection Magic distribution CD. Open the Windows ODBC manager. On 3.11 and NT, this is located in the control panel; on 2000 it is located in the administrative tools section; for Windows 95 and 98, you must run the icon created when installing the 16bit ODBC system.
Create a new MS Access (MDB) database anywhere you like. (the magic\data directory is fine) Under '95 and '98, be sure this is NOT the 32-bit access driver, but rather the driver simply labeled MS Access. Call the new database share IMWDB. This name can be changed, but then you will need to make additional changes to settings in Intersection Magic. From Intersection Magic, select Utilities / Configuration / ODBC sources. You will notice the names of many tables all located in a DB called IMWDB. Click on the "create tables" button and wait for processing to finish. This will create all the tables needed by Intersection Magic in the IMWDB file. You will either get a positive message indicating success, or one indicating that there were errors. If there were errors, retrace your steps or contact support for assistance.
Intersection Magic is now ready use the ODBC data sources. Note: When using Windows 95 or 98, if you attempt to open this database in MS Access, it will prompt you to convert to a more current data file, or not be able to change the structure. DO NOT CONVERT THE DATA FILE. It will be rendered useless to Intersection Magic. You CAN modify data in it and save it. |
