At this point, most of the menu options and functions will be gray as they are not yet accessible. You will need to create a database for IMW to access. Select the Utilities / Database / Create menu option. A dialog box will come up with several options available. Give the database a name by clicking on this button and typing in the four characters given to you on your installation sheet and hit return, in our example we have used CITY. The extension of ACC.DAT will automatically be added for you to create a database CITYACC.DAT.
If your database includes Milepost, Hundred Block, or Node data, make sure these are checked. (This information will be included on your installation sheet, however if you don't know, just leave the default attributes that are already checked.) Another option is Swap streets. Unless you are using a coordinate-based system (South Dakota, specifically) you will want to leave this default option checked. Finally, you will have the option of assigning user read and write security attributes to the database. If you choose to use the IMW security features, each user must log in and have sufficient rights to read and/or write to the database. At this point you will need to specify the main user and password for this database, if you want security. Additional users may be added later. For more information on setting up users, see User menu.
