Creating a location filter

Top  Previous  Next

Locations filters are text files that contain an intersection names. This file has a *.lol extension.

The file used to specify a location filter has the following format:

One intersection per line.
Intersection names are defined a street & cross street.
The intersection names may be enclosed in quotes if desired.
There are no blank lines between the intersection names.

The easiest way to create location filter is create a high crash location list, and then delete the unwanted intersections.

Here is how to create a list of Intersections to edit:

1.Open the Generate High Accident Locations window(Reports/Listings/High accident locations).
2.In the "Show the first ____ intersections" box enter a number that will include all of the intersection in your database.
3.In the "with at least ___ collisions." box enter a 1 for at least one collision.
4.Click the radio check box for "As data".
5.Check only the Name column in the "Columns to display" section.
6.Click the OK button to create an intersection list.

The resulting list can be edited to remove the unwanted information an locations. For example if the filter is only of the signalized intersections then the non-signalized intersections lines can be deleted. Ensure that the "Intersection", "Totals:" and "Averages:" lines are deleted from the file. Once the file is edited it should be saved with a .lol extension to be  recognized as a location filter. As with filter files multiple location filters files can be created and saved.
